Are you an artist making a career change or a graduate who wants to explore and participate in work that straddles arts and health?

We’re inviting applications for up to eight artists, based within easy reach of the Thurrock area, to take part in a day of Dance for Neurology training workshops on Wed 6 November from 10am-4pm in Grays, Essex.

Participants will work with our lead artists and Artistic Director to learn more about CoDa Dance Company, train in facilitating our Dance for Neurology workshops, designed to be delivered with neurodisabled people in hospital and community settings, and gain valuable transferable skills to take into their own practice.

Dance for Neurology workshops are specialist dance sessions designed to complement physiotherapy rehabilitation for neurodisabled people with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s and acquired brain injury. Sessions tailor movement and dance exercises to the needs and abilities of participants, including those who are profoundly disabled, in order to increase range of movement, improve cognitive attention, and provide social connection.

Following the Dance for Neurology training day, we will be inviting two of the participants to join our pool of freelance Dance for Neurology facilitators.

We want to hear from you if you are:

  • Trained in an arts or movement practice – applicants do not need to be dancers or trained in dance
  • Adaptable, comfortable moving, able to improvise and keen to learn
  • Interested in joining CoDa Dance’s pool of freelance Dance for Neurology facilitators
  • Based close enough to Thurrock to attend future bookings in the area

We value artists’ time and will be offering a fee to each participant of £110, in line with our artists training fees, to include all travel expenses. Lunch will also be provided.

The training will take place at The Beehive Resource Centre, West Street, Grays, Essex RM17 6XP.

How to apply

Please share your current CV (no more than two pages) and a short statement of interest in writing (max 300 words) or a brief video or voice note (max 1-2 minutes) telling us a little about why you’re interested in becoming a part of our freelance facilitator pool and how you would benefit from the training.

Please submit applications to admin@codadance.com by 9am, Monday 30 September, 2024. We aim to inform successful applicants of their place on the training day by Wednesday 2 October.
